Perfectionist. I'd blank the old wiper holes. VW did this itself on
many models... punch holes for both sides and blank one set...

The shifter is centrally-mounted, so it would be an easy one. With a
T1 or T2 all you had to do was heat & bend the lever. Been there,
done that.

These won't need changing...

No problem.

Easy to replace, cheap too... in fact I have spare H4s lying around

There's an opening on the other side, under the headlining, ready to
accept a light.

Maplight? IF it has one...
