Why not side-to-side? My manual uses the word "gradient" which COULD be interpreted to mean fore-and-aft, but could also just be some German VW tech writer meaning "angle".... More specific the manual is not--mine is '87. Is your different for '89?

You are right that 8 degrees is a lot. Parking in front of my house seemed very tilted to me and when I measured, it turned out to be "only" 5 degrees.
