I'm not familiar with the specific hydraulic device in the auto tranny, but I have installed HUNDREDS of hydraulic door closers, and they require the same treatment. Crank the spring and valve to max, then adjust backwards from there. If you don't, they can close slow as a snail for like a couple days before *pop* something shifts and the next person gets whacked in the butt as they go thru the door.
