I don't have any personal experience with the lights mentioned below, but
they do appear to be the Ceibies (sp?) from France. I have the round version
of these on my '87 GL. I'm running 80/100 bulbs in mine and the lighting is
amazing! The pattern of light thrown down the road is perfect.
If you have any questions about fitment, contact Daniel at Daniel Stern. He
is very responsive via e-mail and he can give you very good advice. In
addition, he has all sorts of genuine heavy duty lighting connectors for
larger wattage applications (not like the wimpy things I have seen from at
least one list vendor). Daniel Stern Lighting shipped my order to me very
quickly and I was very satisfied.
You will note that he offers the lights with or without the "city light"
option. This is a small 5 watt bulb in the headlight shell that you wire
into your parking light circuit. It is only illuminated when the parking
lights are on. It just adds a little extra visibility when parked. It
doesn't really help in lighting the road if you are driving. Not only that,
having the city lights raises the gadget factor of your Vanagon. After all,
we all need a high gadget factor.
Other than being a satisfied customer, I have no other association with
Daniel Stern Lighting. They really know their business. I highly recommend
them.
Remember, always make sure that your headlights are aimed properly. It takes
a few minutes to set up, but it is worth it for proper lighting, and you
won't blind oncoming drivers.
Cheers,
Bruce
