I noted the other day that my vanagon, parked on a very steep hill, move about 20 feet. Jumped in to find the park brake is still on, but loose. WHat gives? Someone in here? No chance. Feels like the park brake is coming up real high. Quick glance at the park brake cables reveals all is intact. Pulled rear brake drums. All in good shape. Back to the park brake lever, and inspecting the pivot point all looks good? Now I'm stumped....... Back underneath to do a inch by inch inspection of the cables to fine the left rear is rusted so bad that the outer sleeve has collapsed, from rust, shortening as you put on the brake. What bugs me is it sat on that hill for a hole week before it moved. Eric |
