I've mentioned it before: there was an article in the Limbo newsletter many (10+?) years ago detailing how one fellow installed 5X7 (200 mm) halogens in a Vanagon. He basically fabricated an adapter from small angle iron which accepted the retaining rings of the 5X7's and picked up the mounting studs of the stock Vanagon headlamp plate. He claimed the 5X7 halogens were beaucoup better and while they were not contoured to match the curve of the Vanagon nose, they did not look bump ugly in the least.

If I were to install these lamps, I probably would haunt the boneyards until I found a 5X7 headlight bucket which could be adapted to the Vanagon headlamp plate. Susquehanna MotorSports, http://catalog.com/susq/, whose service is peerless, has great prices on all Hella products including the 5X7's.
