Andy,

If you want to experience some lump-in-your-throat lack of confidence, pump up the pressure to 65 psi on a set of Y356's mounted on a Vanagon and take it for a spin. The time I used Y356's, I had them mounted and an alignment done at a front-end shop I had never used before. Since Vanagons are so rare where I am, whenever I take a van to a shop for the first time, I talk to the mechanic to let him know that Vanagons are a little different from what he usually sees. So, I mentioned to the front-end man that the van's tires required more pressure than most cars and that they were rated for 65 psi max. He must have misunderstood what I said because he pumped them up to 65 psi, front and rear.

The first hundred yards after I pulled away from his shop I thought,"Wow! What a difference new rubber makes; the steering is so light". That thought soon changed to,"That SOB is trying to kill me!!!" The rest of the way home, all I had to do was to only think about changing direction and the van would be on the other side of the road.

George
