Tina,

Remember, most Westys carrying propane are in a secure tank, well mounted to the frame of the van. They are well away from the heat source and have a strong skidplate underneath. Different from bungycording a tank to the roof or letting one roll around the inside of the van. The forces in an accident at 65mph would suprise you. It's one of the reasons most people don't build with real wood inside their van anymore. Projectiles are not a nice thing to have aiming at the back of your head going 65mph When you are, for all intense purposes,... stopped.
