On my 82, I added a relay and went with 80/100 watt E-code headlights - both high & low beam off the headlight switch. I then added a fog light switch to run the inner lights separately. Works well for me. If you have any questions, there is a pretty good website which helped me with problems on my Rabbit http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/tech.html
