Jim: Try syncro.org for all things syncro and the syncrolist on yahoo.com groups. Check their archives and maybe join both lists.

What Robin says is true, but I'll differ/clearify on the "They have nothing to do with 4WD." statement. The front diff lock will lock up both front wheels, but as stated, there is still about a 1/4 turn pause between the rear and front wheels. I think it does "have something to do with the 4WD".

Your problem could also be a bad VC, or a rusted pin (in/out of the front diff) and/or a burned out bulb, or rusted wire connections on the front diff lock, or all. I'll guess the actuator pin is rusted, as the mechanism is rarely used. I test my VC by setting the van on gravel and putting it LOW/granny gear and accelerating quickly enough to spin the rear - hence - the front wheels. I watch out my opened front door. The front wheels should be able to spin on gravel/grass (IMHO). There is more on this at syncro.org. Malcolm (91 syncro).
