Subject:      Monitoring aux battery charging?

If a fellow has been camping for a few days and he's been running off
his (newly-installed) aux battery, he might need to put a charge into
it. He can start his Westy's trusty engine and let the (newly-installed)
relay connect his aux battery to the alternator. (As you can tell, I am
installing some new bits.)

But sitting there at camp hearing the engine run, it's not clear to me
how fast the engine needs to run, nor how long it needs to run, to bring
the aux battery back to fully-charged status.

I'm looking for a way to monitor battery charging. A good old-fashioned
analog ammeter in series with the battery's charge line?
