Subject: Another Fridge vent question for all westy owners
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Okay, Here's one to test the metal of the group. I am in the process of installing the stainless fridge vent to my 87 syncro GL westy conversion. No hole yet in the side. Upon some great help from the group I was able to get the dimensions for location of the vent on the side. I also have found a few in my area in parking lots and had a look and measure.

One thing I have noticed is the location of the vent on the side of the van is slightly low in relation to the body line.

The edge of the round vent rubber portion hangs down below the body line about a quarter of an inch.

This could have been centered on the body easily, by just raising the vent a quarter inch.

I have looked at this closely and the only reason I can come up with is when you remove the fridge the tubes inside are bent a bit lower and that may make it easier to get the fridge out?

A quarter inch does not seem to be much to make the vent sit centered on the body, seems like the tubes still have difficulty anyway, what's another quarter inch?

My other thought is that since the lower edge hangs off the raised section of the body perhaps water drains around the vent better?

Okay I am reaching here but it looks like its installed wrong by the factory and they could have centered it.

Why not?

Thanks, I will wait to drill the holes until I hear back from you guys as to why not to center it.

Doug
