Subject: Head gasket leaks and winter weather
Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII

Has anyone else had the experience of getting head gasket leaks after moving to a colder climate? After spending all their lives in Southern California, both my 87 Westy (80,000 miles) and my 88 Westy (150,000 miles) started seeping coolant at the head gaskets (on both sides of the engine) during the first winter we spent in Lake Tahoe. Nighttime temps were usually in the teens for 3-4 months. Do cold temps promote head gasket leaks?---especially with older gaskets? Can the metal of the engine contract enough in cold temps to cause the seepage? Just wondering, Lee
