I wish that was true. But it isn't. In the lovely Commonwealth of Virginia, the State Police make everybody get a safety inspection on a yearly basis. I was talking with one of the inspectors last year and we mentioned brakelines. He's rejected cars (per the regulartions) for having the "stylin'" braided steel brakes lines. He made comment that these are NOT the high end (read expensive) braided steel brakelines, but the cheapo ones used to dress up some "hot rods". The expensive lines would be fine for the safety inspection. And yes, he could tell the difference. It was in interesting discussion as we covered other things that the inspectors are required to look at.
