The cooling system if pressurized (as it should) is at a much higher
pressure that the crankcase (hopefully) If the cylinder should loose
their seal at the base (loose) coolant will flow into and contaminate
the engine oil.

Another possible cause would be if the Cylinder Base to Crankcase
O-Rings
have blown out or wasted away. If so, oil blow-by will seep into the
coolant. This was the cause on my engine last spring which necessitated
a
complete rebuild as well as the subsequent coolant flush & cleaning and
massive hose replacement to boot.
In addition, the ATF cooler on the transmission on my beast was falling
apart as well, mixing coolant and ATF to add insult to injury.

the
Wasserboxer. Do you have an automatic transmission? If so, I would
consider
the trans oil cooler 1st. Maybe the fluid is gunk-ed with some type of
stop
leak or mixed coolant types caused a gummed up mess. If it is really
bad,
the cooling system should be cleaned with one of the cooling system
cleaners
as oil will deteriate the hoses and make for lousy heat transfer.
