Eric: You are absolutely correct! In this case, I never even took the pump off, just reversed the wires ON the pump, turned on the ignition, opened the rear hatch, moved the flapper arm on the AFM (I've removed the cover and just leave it held in place by gravity), a couple of tries (maybe 3), I heard it whirr. Changed the wires back, working ever since. One cannot overstate how dangerous gasoline is, especially in your garage or other building. Bad enough to burn your Vanagon, much worse to burn down your garage or house. (One of my brothers did this once while working on a BOSCH FI system.! No one injured, but his insurance company and pride took a BIG hit! NOT the Porsche mechanic brother, the engineer brother!) Al Brase
