Subject: Mystery Auto Trans leak....Suggestions urgently needed.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello All:

For the last week or so I've had an Auto Transmission leak in my 1990 Carat that I'm having trouble locating the exact spot.

Some history...my Torque Converter Seal blew last year as I was preparing to have the engine replaced... so I had it replaced at the time of the engine install.

When the Torque Converter Seal blew it was a major leak-fest...my current leak is gradual...seams like it is worse as I'm driving...when the van is parked & idling and I'm under it it isn't much of a distinct leak. (Made difficult to diagnose with all the mess under there.)

So, I guess my first question is: Can a Torque Converter seal leak "gradually"...or is it always total seal failure?

The transmission drain pan seal seems ok. I'm thinking it could be a Trans Axle Seal...so I'm going to clean it off, then put the van on jack stands and run it in gear to see if the leak is more obvious.

Anyone have experience with a leak like this? Suggestions?

If it is a trans axle seal what is involved in replacing one?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Kevin
