Hi all I wanted to share with everyone my 1st trip report after the hectic 5weeks conversion from an 1980 2.0l Air cooled into a Quantum 1.6 Turbo Diesel in my camper van. The power was very similar to the previous 2.slow but I expect to have better MPG and actuall heat, not to mention the TD climbs hills a lot better then the 2.slow and the whine of the turbo is a great sound (not like those Hondus with imitation turbo whistles strapped into their mufflers, *how 10yr oldish)

the overall grade is a B+/A theres still a few kinks to work out. but all in all it ran great, started and cooled properly and if I had needed it would have actually had heat (still need to wire the rear fan to the dash) I plan on taking the rest of the fall season a bit easier then while I was doing the conversion, but will still attend some fall festivities and the Oct 17th beaver SPrings VW show. (see you there)

Westies at Watkins is an annual event (#3) held in Watkins Glen State Park NY. a spectacular setting in the beautiful Fingerlakes region of NYS (Wine country, and fall foilage perfection) I won't hesitate to attend that event again each year. Joel Cort has done a good job of co-ordinating with the state park rangers to get all the campers together which was a great community atmosphere.

theres still stuff to do with the camper and I'll have it ready to go first thing this coming spring for the many VW events and VW camp outs held in the NE.

thanks for listening , and see you all in the VW side. 8-) Dan Stevens VWCCNY http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VWCCNY/
