2wd Vanagons (refill behind front wheel) have a 16.5 gallon (US) tank 4wd Vanagons (refill near rear hatch) have a 18.5 gallon (US) tank.

The problem is, most times, when the shut off first clicks at the gas pump, you'll still be able to get 1+ gallon into the tank.

I find (with my 4 wheel drive Syncros) that if my nose is down and the driver side down, I can most easily top off the tank, without having to trickle feed fuel in to it. Most gas station seem to have level fuel areas, so I frequent the few that don't...
