Eric,
I can't see how draining the fluid from the VC would do anything other
than make your VC completely bind. The removal of the drive shaft should
have stopped the VC from working, and thus eliminated it from your test.
You could open the front trans and remove the VC completely. I've never
done it but I think Tom Carrington has or had a description of replacing a
VC on his website and it didn't look to overly difficult. With a completely
drained front trans and no VC you should have eliminated those components
from your test. However I don't think the VC is your source of vibration.
What about front bushings, tie rods, ball joints, front cv's, there is allot
to make vibrate. Just on a side note. When I first got my van my VC was
binding a little when cranked all the way to the left or right. I replaced
the oil in the front trans and the binding went away. I'm no professional
mechanic just a guy working in the dirt fixing my van.
