Frank: I certainly agree with you there! Every Vanagon 2.1 engine I've seen with the oil warning buzzer coming on, HAD LOW OIL PRESSURE. Not a bad sensor. On my own vehicles, I've generally bought many more miles by using STRAIGHT weight 40 oil or 15w-50 Mobil one. NO other multi vis oils stand up to the intense demands that the waterboxer put on them. I don't think it's such a mickey mouse system! (BTW, I often see ebay ads for 2.1's saying they have bad oil prerssure sensors- bad $7 part. but they don't bother to fix it! Caveat emptor!) Al Brase 69 double cab, Vanagons > The bottom line here is that when that oil light starts to >flicker you'd better find out why quickly. It may be an electrical problem, >it may be a filter problem, it may be an oil problem, it may be a relief >valve problem or it may be a bearing problem. If it's the latter your in for >seeing a rod poking through the case in short order ! That oil pressure >warning light system, no matter how Micky Mouse it is, was installed by the >engineers for a reason ! > > > |
