Now that I have the 6 cylinder in my Syncro westy, I've been thinking...I don't have enough gears. When my 6 cylinder was installed I had the transmission worked on to put a lower 4th gear in. The funny thing is, I now find a few places where the 4th is too low, and 3rd too high. Or, rather, >I< find them to much apart. I have to down shift for a few grades when towing a trailer and running the AC. So I got to thinking (listen to the dollar signs start piling up). What's the chance of keeping my existing gears (INCLUDING the low granny gear), but also adding an over drive gear. In other words, a 6 speed transmission for a syncro. I see that the G50 Porsche transmission in later years was a 6 speed, but I don't know if the gears on that can be shuffled so that I have a granny gear and 5 normal gears. I understand how engines work, but transmissions are still a thing of mystery to me. :) |
