The instructions inside the box will say the portable buddy is safe for indoor use while awake and with a window open but not while sleeping under any circumstances. The labeling on the outside of the box that says "safe for indoor use" is misleading since it is only safe for indoor use if a window is open and only if you are awake. Many people have died using this type of heater while sleeping, even in VW vans with their tops popped. Seems like it might not be a bad way to go though, fall asleep in your vanagon at some great camping spot and never wake up, no pain or anything, maybe the deaths are suicides in disguise.
