Here in the States some thirty-five years ago, any Jaguar was considered a rare and exotic beast which few shops would dare touch. I guess it was not so different from a Vanagon. Compared to the flabby American cars of the day, the 3.8 was a great car to drive . . . until Lucas, The Prince of Darkness, worked his form of black magic and the electric overdrive would queef out causing the car to start freewheeling in the middle of a high speed sweeper.
