Hi there,

Lately I had my tranny out for a clutch job. Mister Transmission in Canada never worked on a 80 Vanagon tranny. You have to take the clip out and yes there is a screw on the end of the drive shaft. So screw out is right.

Hartmut.

i'm new at this whole gig, but if there's one thing i learned, when the manual says something about removal, it means beat it out with a hammer.

"carefully pry the strut from the ball bearing"

screw that, that thing was rusted on IMABUS since it was born in Germany.

I need some advice on trans main shaft removal from a diesel and an aircooled vanagon transmission.

The bell housing is removed from the transmission, the circlip is off, the reverse gear slides to the rear.............

.........now how do I get the main shaft out? It doesn't seem to "screw out" like Bentley says it will!
