2 foot by 2 foot isn't quite big enough.
You can try a Welding Supply house and buy flame retardant materials by the
square yard.
I'd speculate that spending  money on new injector hoses / seals, FI hoses
and other fuel related preventive maintenance would be cheaper than either
measure.

Anybody know if this blanket would stop an engine fire from entering the
cabin on a vanagon if it was installed under the rear carpet?

Or, perhaps installed under the hatch itself?
