Listees, Help!

I'm getting a high pitched squeak from the area of the A/C compressor. Sounds like the bearings are going. Also, when I rev the engine and let it drop back to idle the belt vibrates, indicating there maybe some resistance on this pulley. Since I don't plan on using the A/C for a while is there any downside to removing the fan belt serving the Compressor?

Also, on an unrelated topic, I've been hearing what I thought was the exhaust pipes hitting the heat shield or some other sheet metal in the engine compartment. But I now am concerned that the sound may be coming from the transmission since I only hear it when I moving. Its a hard one to diagnosis since. Any ideas on what this sound could be. It is driving okay.

All help will be appreciated.
