NOMEX is the fire retardant stuff used in NASCAR driving suits. The welding blankets I mentioned that you get from welding supply are used to protect welders when they're welding overhead.

I kwould think ypu'd be better off buying straight old Kevlar 29(the wave that is about as dense as denim) but not sure who sells it wholesale. I have a small chuck of it in the shop. Might be willing to test it on a fire.
