My experience with gas or diesel heaters has not been good. They were always giving trouble. I had a gasoline heater in the backseat of my airplane once - a Cessna 195. It worked basically like all the gas and diesel heaters found elsewhere. But that thing was always on the fritz. Aggravated me to death. Never worked when you really wanted it to.

On the other hand, I installed a Suburban propane fired RV heater in my '68 Loaf. 30,000 btu's whenever I wanted them. If I ever buy another heater, that is what I will get. I installed it on the floor right behind the drivers seat. Mounted the thermostat on the Deiver door post. The thermostat was also the on-off switch for the heater. The heater had electronic ignition, and if the flame went out it would automatically relight. The combustion air intake and exhaust was in one port, and was the type that had "Zero" pressure, so you could drive with the heater running. In winters in Alaska I could run out and turn it on, then when I got off work, I would go out to the van and it would be warm as toast, and all the snow would be melted off. I loved that heater.
