AFAIK, my '87 Camper still has the original fuel pump on it after 235,000 miles.

I have found the biggest killer of fuel pumps (especially VW fuel injection pumps) is letting a vehicle set without running it consistantly. The fuel has a tendancy to gel and whatever water that is in the fuel finds its way into the pump since the pump is the lowest part of the system.

I only have an '85 to look at (square plastic filter, upstream from pump, inlet & outlet different sizes).

So, the later ones only have a filter *after* the fuel pump? Could this be why I hear so much about fuel pump failures?

Thanks,
