Just a brief note about inner tubes. Heavy Truck inner tubes can withstand a lot of heat, much more than 220 degrees. You should be able to get a free inner tube at most large truck rental yards. Light truck / car / bicycle tubes cannot withstand much heat before they get gummy and ignite.

I'm in the process of servicing & upgrading my fridge and need to replace the rubber gasket that seals the upper and lower parts of the combustion chamber. I have looked for some suitable material locally with no luck. I have read on the Westfalia Owners Web Site, and on Frank Condelli web page that a tire inner tube could be used to create a new seal. Has anybody used an inner tube for this seal? If so how did it hold up to the heat of the burner? How did it look the next time you cleaned the burner? As I see it now my only two options are sealing with a high temp silicone (which will make it difficult to get apart to clean the next time) or trying the inner tube. Thanks
