Great news!!! I had to think you had the right idea!!  So out into the
elements with flashlight in hand and low and behold there is the axle
hanging there!!  Well so far there is excitement on an easy fix, until I get
in there and see how bad the bolts are.

Uh, I hate to ask, but has one of your axles become detached? Happened to me
on a '72 in the middle of an intersection. The wha wha bang sounds familiar.
Caused by the CV bolts backing out.

Hi all (again),

I got a call from Beth:  "I put it first gear and was going up the driveway
(kinda steep) and the van went wha wha bang and then it wouldn't move in any
gear.

I got home and tried it.  It is like the clutch is missing... nothing.
Before I spend hours tearing this apart and mega bucks on a clutch kit is
there something in the tranny that could be causing this?
