But hey, really, an 84 and the coolant lines are rusted.... How good could the gas tank be, anyway? It's made of steel and in the same environment. Might be a good time to work on that , too! Especially if it makes the coolant line job easier. I just took the tank out of my 91 and put in the one from my wrecked 87. While out, I coated the entire top withWurth Rust Blaster, a POR-15 type product., renewed the crossover pipe, gaskets and vent lines. Also flushed out all the rusty debris from the inside and put on a filter in front of the pump (this is a 2.1). While the tank was out, I scraped every rusty part above it, brake lines, e-brake cable, PS lines, PS cylinder. then painted them with the same stuff. Only problem was, I got tiny bits of the Wurth stuff on my glasses. Time for new lenses! It CANNOT be removed. Shoulda put on saftey glasses, I always think of it too late! If you have a bit more time and can combine the jobs where the work is redundant, you can be assured of less down time in the long run. Al Brase Vanagons
