OEM mufflers are still available for the 2.1's. List is about $200 and
they still offer lifetime warranty.

I don't believe you can purchase an original quality muffler through a
VW dealer unless they have old inventory. I tried a year ago and the
only mufflers I could find were aftermarket and were noticeably louder
than the originals. I want quiet not noise. The original VW muffler has
an offset between the intake and exhaust which i believe helps to baffle
and quiet the exhaust. The aftermarket mufflers I found have a straight
shot through the muffler (you can look straight through it!) The VW
dealers had the same mufflers as the FLAPS.
