I can't speak to brands -- but I've got some brand-new valves I picked out of Bob Donald's trash can a few years ago (I'm always picking up bits of metal for the lathe...) and they are pretty scary-looking. I wouldn't want them in my engine. Every other valve I've seen in my life has looked highly finished, polished stem etc -- these reminded me faintly but definitely of machine-tool stuff coming from India, which is in no way a compliment. Not that they couldn't be ok, but the totally sub-standard workmanship suggests otherwise.
