Subject: Lighting for 9-gauge cluster
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

By the way should anyone be interested... All of the lighting in the cluster is red (a la Audi) I achieved that in the 2" guages by painting the bulbs red (duh!) but the tach, speedo, and fuel gauge were another matter as vw illuminates those from the front. so the 3/4" rings that set the tach and the speedo back from the cluster front (3" pvc cut and epoxied to the gauge faces and then covered with a 3" clear lexan cover, epoxied to the other side of the pvc) all have three (3) t1-size, red-LEDs countersunk into the ring and angled toward the gauge face. Since the LEDs are all at the top of the gauges the illumination is not even across the face but I was getting tired drilling little holes and trying to place LEDs evenly around the guage and finally said "F_ _ _ IT, who cares about low speed and low rpms at night anyway?" The fuel guage by the way got the same treatment with LEDs illuminating from both sides. thoma
