I use one similar to the latter that just uses the regular hole the hitch ball bolts to. The one I have was from Bike Nashbar, It hinges down so that you can open the back hatch. I have found it to work very well. It is just a little hassle to unbolt the ball and bolt the bracket on when I want to carry my bike. If you will never use it for pulling a trailer, you can leave the bracket on the hitch mount, and easily remove the rest of the rack without tools.
