A timely posting... I stopped in at the Crutchfield store this morning
(Harrisonburg) and was pleasantly surprised to learn that they now
carry MB Quart speakers.

This is nice because MB Quart, in addition to making very good
speakers, has speakers that fit in the stock location of many
VW's...including Vanagons.

So I picked up a couple of pairs. PE210's. Unfortunately, the stock
speakers on a Vanagon are designed in such a fashion that the speaker
grill is more or less and intergral portion of the speaker. I could put
the MB Quarts in the (front door) spot without making any
modifications, but I wouldn't have a grill on them.

Instead, I'll make the existing hole slightly larger so that I can
flush mount the MBQuarts with their included grills. The finished look
will be nearly identical in appearance to the stock speakers. Except
for the MB Quart logo on the grill face.

Of course, once I start on this, I'm going to be looking at the
original stock speaker wiring and considering replacing it with monster
speaker wiring...One thing at time though (I've still got to see where
I'll stick the cross-over boxes...probably inside the doors up front,
in the back I think I'll have less issues.
