hmmmm.... i know where there's a container load of vintage Type 1, 2, & 3 NOS parts form a defunct VW holding company. Even found whole sides of split screen and loaf buses. They were a bit too big for my luggage but I brought some Type 3 pieces. I am negotiating to purchase an early dune buggy type vehicle made by VW for rough country consumption. It's not a Thing or a Kubelwagen... It's something very basic. Can someone guess what it is?

Only VW built vehicle that comes to mind that matches that description (if it isn't a 181/182 or a Kubelwagen) is the one year only 1968 VW Country Buggy. They didn't come much more basic ;)

Seen here at http://members.netro.com.au/~vwcc/cb.htm since others may never have heard of it...
