We use pressure treated 2X8s, cut at 45 degrees front and back. We carry 4, 2 are longer, 2 are shorter, so as to stack a shorter one on the longer ones. I drilled holes in all 4 so that a tent peg would go down through them and into the ground to stop the top one from sliding off the bottom one, but I have found that putting a light gravel sandwich between the 2 boards is enough to keep them from sliding off. One consideration here (between the plastic blocks and wood) is the weight, I believe the wood to be lighter, but I have not weighed them.

We also keep a small bubble level in the van to aid our efforts. We take the kitchen sink//stove lid (closed) to be defined as "level".

Also many folks (not I) use the jack to level the van and/or to stop the van from bouncing. M
