Sorry to hear of your mishap.  For the record, if you're ever voyaging in
moose country (like Northern Ontario for example), by all means lean on
your horn, then swerve to avoid.  A collision with a moose at 50mph in a
vanagon is likely not survivable.  If you're in a car, expect several
thousand pounds of ungulate in your lap...even less survivable.

Several years ago I was doing what you shouldn't do...travelling at dusk in
moose country during the summer.  Invariably that's when most motorist
deaths due to moose collision occurs.  Navigating a sharp bend in the
highway, I spotted two moose (rare to see two together) in some marsh on
the side of the road and did my best to slow down and watch them
carefully.  Unbeknowst to me, there was a third moose (now that's really
rare), about two yards from the front of my van, running to save his life.
At this point, as I had slowed considerably, the rather uninspiring vanagon
brakes saved me and the moose's posterior (literally) from any close
introductions.

Lesson: Don't travel at dusk or night in moose country if you can avoid it.
