John, I sell a Hall effect VSS that fits in the stock cruise sensor hole in '86 and later speedos. It's intended to satisfy the needs of the Subaru ECU and it outputs 3 different signals.

1) 0-5 volt square wave pulse at 4 pulses per speedo cable revolution. 2) 0-5 volt square wave pulse at 2 pulses per speedo cable revolution. (for Syncro) 3) Open collector output (just pulses to ground) Either 2 or 4 pulses per rev.

Comes with mounting screws and instructions.
