When my van was still air cooled I routinely carried 600 pounds on the floor
strapped down.  Any more than that and I had problems.  However with a
waterboxer you should be able to do the full 1000 that it is rated for.  I
know of a wb vanagon that routinely carries 12 bags of concrete on the
floor. (960 pounds) (also excellent vibration deadener)
