I being one who has already done an I4 TD conversion into an AC van.. I
say go for it,
but I hate to see a good syncro dismantled. but now if i ever was soo
lucky to find one in the JunkYard..

I've been seriously racking my brains on how to put a Syncro tranny
into my Baja.
for the Granny low, and diff locker, wouldn't go thru the 4x4 trouble.

but I haven't been able to figure out how to hook up the side shifter..
in a beetle body..

WHY DID THEY HAVE TO GO AND DO AWAY WITH THE NOSE SHIFT.. *GRUMBLES

I'm planning on making a set of plans for a 2nd front mount Aux fuel
tank (Diesel or Veggie oil recommended) for where the spare tire resides
in my van, and using a rear tire carrier. (I can't fit 30" tires in
there anyways.)

but yeah, it's possible to even swap in the WHOLE syncro drive, it's
been done at least once, but it's a tremendous amount of labor and
fabrication.. I hear.

I'm thinking about the following:
Put a cooling system and the transmission / engine of
a syncro into an aircooled vanagon. Remove the syncro
front wheel drive, of course. Maybe also put in the
second gas tank. Result: + 30 HP, low gear, and diff
lock, much more range.
Has anyone done something like this? Any obvious
traps?
