On the return line (the one that goes to the reservoir at the back), yes you can splice in hose. I got some at the local FLAPS, no problem. Frank Condelli has a great page of information and offers replacement lines also http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/hose.htm

It appears that the metal power steering lines have rusted through at the front of 88 vanagon. .

Can I splice in some type of rubber hose to replace the leaking part?

If not, where might I obtain replacement line?
