One is they can not get carb in calif without jumping a lot of hoops. The tiico mod is a real pain as it is sold to people that are not that mechanically knowledgeable and has a lot of short comings in it. Try and get parts for that mod as well.

The tiico mod has a lot of problems with brackets breaking as well as exhaust difficulties that constantly come up. The inline mods also for the most part only marginally better performance than the wb engines however they are more reliable.

My own subie mod is about 18 months and has seen several 1000 to 2000 mile round trips made with no problems. I have not installed a cruise control because I donΉt like them. I have assisted in putting one on a vanagon and it is a pain just like any other vehicle that didnΉt come with it out of the factory.

The best vw engine mod into a vanagon that I have seen are the diesel conversions.

I have seen one vr6 into a vanagon and I donΉt recommend that for anyone that isnt into a lot of fabrication work with a lot of equipment. Also needed a speed sensor to be functional to operate or the computer went into limp mode after about 5 minutes driving. OBDII ecu on the vr6 that he had. Not sure if there was an OBDI version of that engine. It was one very sweet runner.
