The link to Frank's information about the window strip replacement post is http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=ind0007C&L=vanagon&P=R3519 Read it if you are thinking about doing this project. I didn't see it when the original post went by in 2000 and never remember seeing comments contrary to what I posted in the past, though my search of the archives shows Frank has made reference to this original post on several other occasions since the original post. For folks who haven't been on the list too long, Frank's posts are very sound and he knows a lot about care of these vans. I often clip and save his posts on my hard drive for future reference. He has also done some interesting things like putting the AC from a pre 86 vanagon into his Westy. But somehow I missed these posts he made. So, I will defer and say that one should either replace the strip with the original or be sure to replace it with something else that will fit snugly in the grove, not leaving it so it can collapse from pressure. It would still seem that the black rubber material used for securing screen would do the trick if one used the largest size that would fit into the groove. After reading this, I wouldn't just remove the strip and let it go. I actually hadn't planned to as I had bought the tool and the screening material. But now I might go back and look for larger size rubber "cord." Bus Depot still shows it has the parts, about $20 per window, but indicated that the only front windshield gasket they sell doesn't have the groove for the trim. I didn't look at all the list vendors - YRMV. Thanks for posting again Frank. Sam
