I'd guess he hasn't checked the seals inside. :) I had a '67 Dodge Dart with a bad master cylinder piston seal which, if you pressed the pedal down slowly, would allow the fluid to leak by and not produce any braking. If you stomped the pedal hard the seal would "stick" and the brakes would work. It started off the same way he described (occasionally going all the way to the floor). Very scary. Then again, that giant yellow chrome grilled road boat had 4 wheel NON-power DRUM brakes, so it was pretty scary trying to stop it even when the brakes worked. John Bange '90 Vanagon "Geldsauger" |
