I have a Kenwood TM-G707A with the remote head kit that I used to have mounted behind the seat in my pickup truck and am now trying to find a place to put it in my Silver Money Sucker. I must say that the efficient German design of the Vanagon has me stymied. Every other car I've ever owned has had at least three or four "dead spaces" that were perfect for mounting a 2"x7"x10" radio unit. But not the Vanagon-- there isn't a bit of wasted space anywhere, except maybe the inaccessible space above the tranny! I have the '90 standard model with thw two rear facing jump seats, so the only place I can think of to install it out of the way is under the rear seat, but THAT space is (of course) already full of tools, spare parts, and emergency gear. I'm thinking maybe I can squeeze it under the driver's seat, but man, that'd be hard to get to if it needed work. Of course this is all kinda moot because I can't find any place to mount the antenna. I'm afraid to drill holes in the body anywhere as my precious Rolling Money Pit leaks enough already! John Bange '90 Vanagon "Geldsauger" |
