Robert,

I am not certain how well this will work with the steering knuckle in place, but the upper ball joint can be freed easily with a smart blow to the stud. I use a 2 lb. hammer and a piece of 1'' brass round bar stock for a drift and I give the stud a pop. The taper fit releases instantly.

Save the pickle fork for roasting marshmallows; I'm not a fan of pickle forks even for tierod ends.
